Meddy
Front-end development
Our app recommends over-the-counter medications based on users' responses to a short quiz about their symptoms, suggesting possible illnesses like colds or headaches. While it provides advice similar to what friends or family might suggest, these are only recommendations and not medical prescriptions. We won't release the app publicly to avoid legal issues if users experience adverse effects. Therefore, it's crucial to consider other factors, such as hydration or sleep, rather than solely relying on medication.
Why Meddy?
As an international student from Japan living alone in Canada, I often struggle with knowing what to do or take when I'm not feeling well due to the differences in medicine between the two countries. To address this, we aimed to create an app that helps users determine the appropriate actions when they are unwell, featuring a user-friendly interface that is easy for everyone to use.

Key Features
1. Quiz
We implemented a quiz section to test users' knowledge of health tips. Once the user submits an answer, we used useEffect to set a timer to display the answer and explanation after 2.5 seconds.
2. Health Tips
3. Dark Mode
Mockup - Figma file
We created a Figma file to design the mobile interface and decide on the features we wanted to include, such as Terms of Service, quiz, health tips slides, and available stores. We came up with two versions of the low-fidelity design and later combined the designs to make it easier for users to navigate.
Lesson Learned
1. User centered design
We prioritized user-centered design and ensured our app was easy to navigate for every user. To make sure our design is a user-friendly and intuitive experience, we conducted multiple rounds of user testing and refined our designs four times.
2. Development
This was our first big project and my first experience creating an app, so it involved a lot of challenges: debugging, researching, and using Next.js. Through this process, I learned to develop and apply the knowledge I gained to build a real app.
